Same idea, minus the camera.
Umingle matches you with a random stranger for a text chat or a video chat, in the browser, with no sign-up. HearMe Chat does the same matching without the video: you can talk to strangers by typing or by a voice call that uses your microphone and never your camera. If the part of Umingle you like is meeting someone new, and the part you skip is the webcam, this page is for you. Every Umingle detail below comes from its own home page and terms, checked on 20 October 2026.

What Umingle is
Umingle is a random chat site. Its home page offers two ways in, "Start chatting: Text or Video", and pairs you with a stranger in the mode you pick. You can add interests if you want to, and the site says it tries to match you first with people whose interests overlap with yours. Leave them blank and you are matched with anyone.
There is nothing to install and no account to make. Umingle runs in the browser on a phone, a tablet or a desktop, and its home page says no app is needed. It also says its chats are moderated, by automated systems and by human moderators, and that there are tools to report people.
Its terms, last updated on 16 October 2025, set the age limit at 18 and say the service is run by a company registered in England and Wales. They also mention paid purchases and subscriptions, which they say are not refundable unless the law requires it. The pages we read do not list prices.
Where HearMe Chat is different
The camera is the whole difference. On a text-or-video site, video is always one tap away, for you and for the person you are matched with, and many people only want the conversation. HearMe Chat leaves video out completely. The site never asks your browser for a camera, so there is no button to press by mistake and nobody can talk you into turning one on.
In its place is voice. Pick Voice and HearMe Chat connects you to one stranger on a voice call that carries sound only. You hear a tone of voice and a laugh, and the other person sees nothing of your room or your face. If you would rather type, the text chat is the same one-to-one match with the same Next button.
Calls are not recorded. Only when someone taps Report during a web call do the last 60 seconds of the other person's audio go to a review queue. Every report goes to our moderation queue and is reviewed by a person. Some room messages are hidden automatically first, and repeated under-18 violations are banned automatically.
Between 13 and 19 October 2026, 754 voice calls were started on HearMe Chat, none of them with a camera, along with 9,633 text chats. We took those numbers from our own database for this page; nothing in them is rounded up or estimated.
Where Umingle is better
If you want to see who you are talking to, Umingle has video and HearMe Chat never will. Some people find a face makes a stranger easier to trust, and video is the reason many of them go to a site like Umingle in the first place. That is a fair choice, and HearMe Chat is not trying to replace it.
Umingle also tells you who runs it: a company registered in England and Wales, with written terms you can read before you start. And its matching works the way many people expect from an Omegle-style site, with optional interests and a text or video choice on the first screen. HearMe Chat is a small independent site, online since September 2026.
How to switch in 30 seconds
- Go to HearMe Chat in the browser you used for Umingle. There is no app to download.
- Keep the nickname it suggests or type your own, and confirm you are 18 or older.
- Add the interests you would have typed on Umingle, if any.
- Tap Voice, allow the microphone once, and you are in a call. Tap Text instead if you would rather type.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account on HearMe Chat?
No. Pick a nickname, confirm you are 18 or over and start. A free account is optional and adds friends and direct messages.
Is Umingle safe?
Umingle says its chats are moderated by automated systems and human moderators and that it has reporting tools, and its terms limit it to people 18 and over. As on any random chat site, keep your name, number and socials to yourself. On HearMe Chat there is no camera to misuse, and every report is reviewed by a person.
Is there a Umingle app?
Umingle's home page says no app is needed: it runs in the browser on phones, tablets and desktops. HearMe Chat works the same way, with nothing to install.
Is Umingle down?
We cannot see Umingle's status. If it does not load, try another browser or network, or try again later. HearMe Chat is a separate site, so you can start a voice or text chat here in the meantime.
Does Umingle have voice chat without video?
Its home page offers text or video and does not mention a voice-only mode, as of 20 October 2026. HearMe Chat's voice chat is exactly that: a one-to-one call that only uses your microphone.
