If you typed uhmegle.com and ended up somewhere else, that is expected: Uhmegle now points to Umingle (checked 20 October 2026). Its home page says you can now use Umingle instead, and the Start button takes you there. If you were looking for something other than a text-or-video site, HearMe Chat is a random chat with strangers by voice or text, one person at a time, with no camera anywhere. Below is what Uhmegle shows today and how HearMe Chat compares.

The Uhmegle column is what uhmegle.com showed on 20 October 2026. Because its Start button now leads to Umingle, the chat you get from it is Umingle's; our Umingle comparison page has it in full.
What Uhmegle is
Today, uhmegle.com is mostly a signpost. When we checked on 20 October 2026, its home page told visitors that they can now use Umingle instead, and pressing Start opened Umingle rather than a chat on Uhmegle itself.
The features it still lists are the same ones Umingle lists: matching on interests, moderated chats, no sign-up, nothing to install because it runs in the browser, and a choice between video and text. In other words, the Uhmegle name now leads to the Umingle service. We have not tried to work out the history between the two sites, and nothing on the page explains it, so we leave that alone.
For you, the practical point is simple. If you liked Uhmegle and are happy with Umingle, follow the button. If the move made you look around, it is a good moment to ask what you actually want from a random chat: a face on the screen, or just a person to talk to.
A redirect like this is also why searches for Uhmegle can feel confusing: the name you remember opens a different site. Nothing is broken on your side, and clearing your browser or trying again will not bring the old page back, because the change is on Uhmegle's own home page.
Where HearMe Chat is different
HearMe Chat is built around the second answer. There is no video mode to switch on, so a match is never a webcam surprise and nobody asks you to show yourself. You choose Text and type, or choose Voice and talk on a call that uses your microphone only. Interest tags work much as they did on Uhmegle: add a few and the match leans towards someone who picked the same ones, and after about 20 seconds it opens up to anyone so you are not left waiting.
Conversations do not have to vanish when they end. If a call drops or one of you taps Next too soon, you have 60 seconds to reconnect, and with a free account you can send the person a friend request and carry on in direct messages. Your country is never shown to the stranger, and nobody can message you without your OK.
On safety, every text message is checked for signs that the writer is under 18 before it is sent, and every chat and call has Report and Block. Every report goes to our moderation queue and is reviewed by a person. Some room messages are hidden automatically first, and repeated under-18 violations are banned automatically.
It is not an empty site. Our own count of the production database shows 9,633 text chats and 754 voice calls started on HearMe Chat from 13 to 19 October 2026, UTC. Each one is a conversation between two people; page visits are not in that number.
Where Uhmegle is better
Strictly, Uhmegle no longer offers a chat of its own; it hands you to Umingle. What that gets you is video, which HearMe Chat does not have and will not add. If seeing the other person matters to you, following Uhmegle's button is the more direct route.
It is also the path of least change. The features Uhmegle lists, text or video, interests and no sign-up, are the ones you already know, so there is nothing new to learn. HearMe Chat asks you to try something a little different: a voice call or a typed chat instead of a camera.
How to switch in 30 seconds
- Open HearMe Chat on your phone or computer, no download needed.
- Choose a nickname and tick the box to say you are 18 or over.
- Optional: type a couple of interests, just as you did on Uhmegle.
- Pick Text or Voice and tap Start. Next finds someone new; Report and Block are always on screen.
