Same wish, a different way to say it: your voice, still no face.

If you are looking at an ome.gg alternative, you probably want to talk to strangers without a camera pointed at you. That is the wish HearMe Chat was built around. One thing to say plainly up front: its own homepage describes ome.gg as text-only, with no mic and no camera needed, so the main difference between the two is not video. HearMe Chat adds a second way to talk, a private mic-only voice call, next to text chat. This page walks through what each way feels like, what the two sites say about themselves, what you give up on HearMe Chat, and how to check any random chat site. Everything we say about ome.gg is taken from what its site says about itself, read on 2 October 2026, and it may have changed since.

What to expect if you are coming from ome.gg

Most people who type "ome.gg alternative" into a search box want one of three things: a bigger pool of people, a different feel, or a feature the site they know does not have. We cannot say anything useful about the first, because we do not know how busy another site is and will not guess. On the second and third we can be concrete. HearMe Chat is a small, independent site that has been online since September 2026. You open it, pick a nickname, choose text or voice, and you are put with one stranger. There is no video mode, so there is nothing to switch off.

If you already like typing to strangers, the text side of HearMe Chat will feel familiar: a short wait, a first message, a Next button. What is new is the voice call, which you can try on the same screen. Read more about each on the text chat and voice chat pages.

Voice and text compared, for people who are shy

Shy people tend to land on text first, and for good reason. You can think before you answer, you can reread what was said, and nobody hears a shaky voice. Text also fits a noisy room, a shared flat or a late night when you cannot make a sound. If that is you, keep typing. It is a perfectly good way to meet someone.

Voice does something typing cannot. It carries tone, so a joke sounds like a joke and a kind word sounds kind. It is also quicker: a minute of talking can cover what takes ten minutes of messages. Some shy people find that once the first thirty seconds pass, a voice feels less exposed than they feared, because there is no face and no one is watching them. Neither mode is the braver choice. They are two tools, and on HearMe Chat you can change your mind between chats without making an account.

Privacy and what the other person can see

On HearMe Chat the other person sees your nickname and, in a voice call, hears you. They never see you, because the site never asks for a camera, and a voice call is one to one with nobody else listening. Calls are not recorded. If someone reports a call, the last 60 seconds are uploaded so a person can review them, and that clip is deleted after 7 days unless a moderator confirms the report as child safety or under 18; then it is kept as evidence for one year.

Anonymous does not mean invisible, so keep the usual care. A voice can identify you to people who know it, and any chat can slip if you share a full name, a school, a workplace or a social account. Treat the first chat with anyone, on any site, as a chat with a stranger.

Leaving, blocking and reporting

The reason a random chat feels safe or not is mostly how easy it is to get out. On HearMe Chat, Next moves you to someone else in one tap, Leave ends the chat, Block means you will not be matched with that person again, and Report sends the chat to a person to read. Every text message passes an under-18 and abuse check before it arrives. The site is for adults only: HearMe Chat is for adults, 18+.

Its site says ome.gg lets you skip, report or block and describes a moderation layer on messages. Those are the same basics, and any random chat should have them. We cannot tell you how either site performs on a bad day, and we would be wary of any page that claims to. What you can do is test the exit yourself in your first minute: find Next and Report before you need them.

What you give up on HearMe Chat

You give up the face. HearMe Chat has no video and will not add it, so you cannot see the person you are talking to and they cannot see you. For some people that is the whole point. For others it is a real loss, and it is worth saying so.

  • No video of any kind, so no visual first impression and no showing something to the camera.
  • No sorting by language. Matching is worldwide, so say what language you want in your first message.
  • A small, independent site that began in September 2026. A room only appears when real people are behind it, so at quiet hours you may wait, use the General room or ask to be notified when someone arrives.
  • Games run in text chat only. Voice calls keep their own simpler games.

Who should stay with a text-only site

If you never want to speak, or you are in a place where you cannot, a text-only site does the job and there is no reason to move. If you are happy with the rooms, friends list and games you already use there, that is a fair reason to stay too. HearMe Chat also has text chat, rooms, a friends list for people with a free account, and games, so you would lose little by trying it. But you should stay where you are if what you actually want is a site that is large, or one that offers something we do not list.

And if you do want video, neither of these two is the answer. HearMe Chat will not offer it, and its own site tells you ome.gg is not built around a camera either. Look at the Omegle comparison page for how the video-led sites differ, or the compare hub for the wider list.

When voice is worth trying

Voice suits a few situations better than text. Practising a language is the clearest: you hear pronunciation and get corrected in the moment. Venting works better aloud for some people, because tone says what words leave out. Late at night, a quiet voice can feel more human than a stream of messages. And if you are simply tired of typing, a short call is a rest.

  1. Pick Start a voice chat and allow the microphone when your browser asks.
  2. Add an interest tag if you like, or leave it empty.
  3. Say hello and tell them what language you would like to speak.
  4. Tap Next if it is not a fit, and use Report if something is wrong.

How to check any random chat site

This works for HearMe Chat, for ome.gg and for every other site on the compare hub. It takes about a minute, and it is better than trusting any page that ranks sites for you, including this one.

  • Does it say who it is for? A site for adults should say 18+ and say what it does about people who are not.
  • Is there a visible Report button, and does the site say who reads reports?
  • Does it say whether calls or messages are stored, and for how long?
  • Does it ask for a camera or microphone you did not choose to use? It should not.
  • Can you leave in one tap, and block someone for good?
  • Does it show numbers? Ask whether anyone is actually waiting right now.
  • Does it ask for your real name, phone or location before you start? It should not.

Try it for a few minutes

The honest way to compare is to try one chat of each kind. Open HearMe Chat, start a text chat, and then a voice chat, and see which one you would come back for. There is no account to make and no payment to enter, and you can close the tab at any point. If you find HearMe Chat is not for you, you have lost five minutes. If you want to see how it fits next to other names, the random chat page explains the idea in more detail.
