Random chat with strangers — free, no sign-up, voice or text

A random chat site pairs two people who did not pick each other. There is no profile to browse and no list of people to choose from: you press Start, the site puts you in a queue, and the next compatible person who joins is your match. When the conversation ends, either of you taps Next and the queue does it again. That loop is the whole product, and it is why random chat has outlived every app that tried to turn it into a feed.

On HearMe the loop runs in two modes. Text chat is typed messages, the stranger's nickname and flag, and a shared-interest line if you overlap. Voice chat is a live, private, mic-only call. Neither has a camera, and neither ever will.

The matcher is a queue with a nudge. When you press Start you join it, and for the first 20 seconds it looks for someone who picked at least one of your interest tags; with Premium, it can also prefer a country you chose. If nobody compatible arrives in that time, you get the next person waiting, full stop. It is random with a bias, not a ranking, and nobody is ever shown a list of people to pick from.

Every match is a new page. The old chat is gone, the URL changes, and the next stranger starts from nothing. Nothing leaks from one conversation into the next, the back button behaves, and each page stays small enough to load fast on a mid-range phone on mobile data.

HearMe runs in the browser on any phone or computer. There is no app to install, no store listing, and no phone-number gate; if you use it often, 'Add to home screen' puts it next to your apps. A text chat uses almost no data, and a voice call is audio only, which is a fraction of what a video call costs on a mobile plan.

Because the person is random, the safety has to be built in rather than assumed. On HearMe every text message passes an under-18 safety check and rate limits, and any chat can be reported to a person with the recent messages attached. Any call can be reported; a short clip from just before the report is then reviewed by a person and deleted. Block stops you being matched with that person again, and bans hold by account, device and network, so a banned person cannot come back under a new nickname. HearMe is 18+ and enforces it.

The other half is yours. Keep your name, school, workplace and socials out of a random chat, treat anyone who pushes you to another app in the first minute as a reason to tap Next, and never send money. Do that and random chat is one of the lower-risk things you can do online, because the stranger knows nothing about you except what you type or say.

Random video chat has a well-known failure mode that HearMe avoids by design: the first second is a face, and the sites become a skipping contest. There are no profile photos, no swiping, and the gender preference is a Premium option described honestly as a preference when available, not a promise, because the pool on every random chat site leans male and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.
