Omegle Alternatives Without Video: Text and Voice Only (2026)

Omegle closed in November 2023 and every list of alternatives since has had the same problem: it ranks sites by how much they resemble Omegle, which mostly means how quickly they put a random webcam in front of you. That was the part of Omegle that got it shut down. If you want the other part, the bit where you say hi to a stranger and end up talking for an hour, the question is not which site is most like Omegle. It is which site gives you a conversation without the things that made Omegle unbearable.

So this list ranks on five things: whether there is a camera, whether you need an account, whether anyone is moderating, what it costs, and whether people are actually there. HearMe is ours; it is on the list, we say so, and the rest are described from their own sites as of September 2026.

Worth being precise, because the good parts are what you are trying to replace. Omegle had a text mode that needed no account, interest tags that matched you on shared words, a Next button, and nothing else. Its text chat was a genuinely good product. Its video mode, unmoderated and open to anyone, is why it does not exist. Any alternative that keeps the first list and drops the second is doing the job.

1. HearMe (ours). Free, no sign-up, no daily limit, and no camera anywhere in the code; the site only ever asks the browser for a microphone. Text chat with interest tags and a skip button, mic-only voice calls that are private and not recorded, a General text room, and a request board. Every message passes an under-18 safety check, reports on chats and calls are reviewed by a person, and bans are by account, device and network. The UI runs in eight languages including Hindi, Arabic, Indonesian and Filipino. The honest downside: we are newer and smaller than the two below, so a 3pm queue can be quiet. 2. AirTALK. The most established voice-first site, running since 2022 by its own account. Voice or text, no camera, no sign-up, AI moderation, a country selector, and an optional premium tier with an AI gender filter that reads voice patterns. Friends and reconnect exist. If you want the busiest random voice queue at any hour, this is probably it. What it lacks is anything beyond 1:1: no rooms, no async content, so a quiet moment on the site is an empty one.

3. Whisperly. Newer (the domain dates from May 2025), voice or text, no sign-up, no public profiles. It has chat rooms, quizzes and a nightly “Whisper Hour” aimed at late-night callers. Its home page says no video while some of its articles describe video as available if both people agree, so treat it as voice-first rather than guaranteed camera-free; a fair distinction if you care about the difference.

4. Chatix. Nickname-based anonymous chat with text, voice and video modes, 18+, where a nickname, gender, age and country are the whole entry form, and a large library of guides. It is the closest thing on this list to old Omegle text mode with moderation bolted on, and its blog is genuinely worth reading.

5. TalkWithStranger. The oldest domain here (registered in January 2016), built around chat rooms rather than roulette matching, with voice call pages alongside. Busy, ad-heavy, and the rooms model suits people who want a crowd rather than a partner.

6. Chitchat.gg. Text or video, one person at a time, moderated, and unusually transparent: it publishes a safety and moderation report with its enforcement numbers. If you want a video option kept behind a real moderation team, it is the best of this group.

7. Emerald Chat. Text and video with interest matching and a karma system that rewards good behaviour. Free tier with paid extras. Camera is a mode, not the default, which puts it a step above the pure video sites.

8. OmeTV. The best-known pure video roulette app, with the problems that come with a large video queue. If you specifically want random video, it is the mainstream choice; see the OmeTV alternative page for why we think you might not.

9. Chatroulette. The original, older than Omegle, still running, still video-first. Moderation has improved over the years; the premise has not changed.

10. Monkey. A mobile-first video app with a short timer per match, aimed at a younger crowd. Video only, app only.

11. Chatrandom. Video roulette with a paid gender filter. It exists to sell the filter, and the free experience reflects that.
